I have to say I got quite excited with the weather forecast at the end of the week, a possibility of snow! I do enjoy a little snow as long as it doesn’t cause too much disruption and as it was forecast for Sunday 25th January hopefully people didn’t need to travel. I was all prepared, camera ready with batteries well charged the evening before and I was about well before dawn. I’d looked out of my window and was so disappointed to see a very light covering on the rooftops. I wasn’t going to be despondent I would head for Hambledon hill as I hoped the view across to Shaftesbury and Spread Eagle hill might be interesting.
Taking one of my usual routes I headed to Manor Drive and I took an image of the hill there around 7.30am, a bit of a hit and miss shot it was hand held, there wasn’t much light with a 1.3 second exposure, I love the image stabilisation in Olympus camera and lenses. It was well before dawn, and hardly any snow and a very grey sky!
I decided not to go straight up but circled round to come in the field near Shroton Lines and then cross over to the hill, I didn’t want to risk falling on the snow at this present time. A very monochromatic view towards the hill. As I started to climb up the hill on the bridleway the sky started to change I just noticed little splashes of colour appearing as the dawn was coming.
I spent a couple of hours on the hill just wandering it was very special, I thought nothing would be as good as 1st January 2021 but it was certainly equal to it. The colour in the sky made it otherwise it may have been a little grey. I’m really pleased I made the effort as we may or may not get anymore this year.
