These days I seem to be out for my morning walk well before the sun rises I don’t mind as I’m tuned to the sounds of nature rather than what I see!  On 23rd December it was one of those mornings, I didn’t think there would be an interesting sunrise so I didn’t wait until later hoping for a good photograph, it was not going to happen. I decided to walk along the Trailway past Bere Marsh Farm, there was a tiny bit of light in the sky but it was well before sunrise.

I’m still hearing the occasional Tawny Owl and this morning I also glimpsed a Barn Owl but he went away from me and soon disappeared. There is quite often a Buzzard calling high in the sky before dawn. The Rooks suddenly decide to take off just before dawn with such a noise as the fly from their roost, quite spectacular, there are a number of roosts around the village and towards Shillingstone.

On this particular morning I just listened to all the birds in the hedges that bordered the Traiway, Song Thrushes, Robins, Wrens, Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits, and Bluetits to name a few it was almost like a mini dawn chorus and as I made my way back it started to rain but it didn’t deter the birds, very special.

I recorded a short piece of audio on my phone as I walked along, you can even hear the rain at the end!
