Even the garden birds are quiet at the moment, in the morning the Starlings, Blackbirds, Dunnocks and House Sparrows come for a feed and then disappear for the rest of the day, although there is always a few in the undergrowth. The Robin is the one who is singing near the house in the morning at dawn and in the shrubs as we are gardening, he is up above or down on the ground rummaging for food where we are working, it’s nice to have a companion although I’m afraid I might step on him one day. Then he gets up in the tree a treats us to a lovely song, so nice!

We are still seeing a Sparrowhawk hanging around a times and flying into the garden but haven’t seen him catch any of our birds, plenty of Pigeon feathers down the lane so assume he is successful in his hunting. After our gathering of Swallows we haven’t seen many more just a few at at time, I was hoping to get some more on the wires, but no luck. There has been quite a number passing through Portland on their way south.

I spotted this Moth one morning on our Conservatory window and took an image and found out later it was a Vapourer Moth, A friend sent me an image of a caterpillar for me to identify a little while ago, which was a Vapourer Moth caterpillar so it was good to see what it would turn into. We are still seeing a number of Butterflies, mainly Small and Large Whites with the occasional Red Admiral and Small Tortoiseshell.

Our Hedgehogs are still very active and the come in through the night feeding and squabbling. All the food, a dish of semi-moist and a dish of dry is all gone by the morning. We have a little female Hedgehog who is always ahead of the rest before it is getting really dark, that’s how I managed to get a photo of her before it was too dark.
