One evening in the week beginning 11th July we were sitting in the living room and we suddenly heard a lot of noise outside our window. When I looked out of the window there were two Green Woodpeckers, a male and a juvenile on the strip of grass in front of our house, they were certainly making themselves known. I assume the juvenile had newly fledged as the male was busy feeding him, although he seemed to do OK when the male flew off! We do get them on the grass at this time of the year as there are always plenty of ants for them to feed on. The male was looking very tatty after the breeding season!

I had to go upstairs and take the pictures out of the bedroom window, I knew they would disappear if I tried to creep outside but the view of them was just right, it was good view and it was great to watch them for a little while before the adult flew off and the juvenile some after, so nice to see them up close.

One of my favourite birds, lovely pictures.
Thank you Claire, they are striking birds so lucky they came so close.
