We got back home fairly early from our hospital visit and we needed to get some diesel for our truck so as it was a lovely afternoon we decided to do a detour to see if we could see a Short Eared owl that has been spotted by the road to Salisbury. Neither Rod or myself had seen one, we had been there a little while back and seen nothing so we weren’t too convinced we would see it.
We took our two dogs Kim and Lucy and gave them a walk before we expected them to appear, there was already one or two people parked up watching the fields. As we were getting back to the car with the dogs suddenly there THEY were, when I say they there was more than one! I saw five or I think possibly six owls hunting. We must have spent a good hour enjoying watching them, they didn’t come too close but I managed to get some photographs although the light was fading or straight in our face. Still plenty of room for improvement with the photography, but the enjoyment of seeing all these beautiful owls hunting was a privilege.
It was very busy there with birders and photographers with very big lenses, I think maybe because the weather forecast for tomorrow is rain it drew everyone out. We will try and see the owls again, hopefully they may come closer.
