Last Thursday my friend asked me if I would like to go to a location in North Dorset to see if we could spot Fallow deer. I have seen the park Fallows at Stock Gaylard but not in the wild. Judy had been for a walk near her old home and spotted them so we set out mid afternoon to see if we would be lucky.
We were lucky we spotted deer at the edge of the field and we slowly walked towards them as quietly as we could. They disappeared into the next field but we were able to see them through a gap in the hedge. It was getting quite late but I was pleased how my camera and lens performed as I managed to get an image of a Fallow Hind in the middle of the field, she eventually spotted us and disappeared toward the woods and some more deer.
The deer at the edge of the woods were Roe deer, a couple of bucks in velvet and does. It appears that they will run together.
We soon had to get back to the car as the light was going fast and as we drove away from the layby a Barn owl flew over the top of us. Somewhere we will have to visit again.
