On Saturday 29th June I went up to Okeford Hill with Tilly for my early morning walk. We are in the middle of some very hot days and I made sure we had the walk before it got too warm. I was a little disappointed as I didn’t see much about, plenty of birds in the undergrowth but nothing was showing with no mammals about. As I was making my way across the footpath along the field I could see something in the wheat field across the road to the side of Ringmoor. I used the camera to see what it was and was very surprised to see a dark deer with large antlers and spots! I took some pictures but then he disappeared in the wheat.
When I got home and looked on the computer I realised it was a Sika Stag, it is the first time I’ve seen one on Okeford Hill in all the years I’ve been up there. The pictures aren’t good but he was a very long way off, but they did allow me to identify the deer.
