Wednesday 22nd April and another lovely start to the day, we are really being treated to some good weather at the moment. I decided to head down to Bere Marsh on my early morning walk. As I crossed the bridge a Swan was heading towards me looking very majestic in the early morning light. I believe there is a nest close by and am looking forward to seeing Cygnets on our stretch of the Stour.

I went towards Hammoon from Bere Marsh on the Trailway hoping to see some small birds as I went. There was plenty of song but the birds were mostly staying ounder cover or just giving glimpses of themselves. I did see a pair Bullfinches but they were soon gone.

I walked under the old railway bridge heading for New Cross stopping to try and see a bird I could hear in the tree near the little clearing under the bridge, when suddenly a Cuckoo started calling in the same tree just above me! I was really excited, my first of the year. I walked little way round the tree and a bird flew into the next tree it was then I took a picture of the bird. It wasn’t until I got home and had it identified on the UK Bird identification Facebook site that it was confirmed as a Cuckoo, it wasn’t a particularly good an image, they could tell by the way the bird held it’s wings. A bird did fly away from the same tree and I could positively identify it as a Cuckoo.
