This morning’s walk was one of those extra special mornings. I didn’t really want to get out of bed early as we had torrential rain all night and I could still hear rain on the window, but I was awake and I knew I would just lie there thinking about going out! So I got up as normal and as always, depending on the weather and how I feel I decided where we would go. As it was so wet I decided the North Dorset Trailway was the best option.
I didn’t get my camera, although waterproof it was too new to get wet yet, but as I was going out the door it stopped raining so I got the camera and it went with me. I had a good reason for the decision because I knew that our local Barn Owl wouldn’t have been able to hunt in the night with the rain and would be hungry so there was a good chance that he would be out later in the morning than usual, he’s usually back in the barn before it is really light although the light wasn’t too good this morning.
My hunch proved right and I was hardly along the path when I spotted him in the distance, so Tilly and I spent quite some time watching him quarter the fields around the farm. I even managed to get some acceptable pictures with my new camera and lens. We got home after our walk and as soon as we got in the house the heavens opened once again. lucky or what! I never get tired of seeing these lovely birds.
