I went for a walk with my old school friend yesterday down to the Purbecks. We had a lovely circular walk from Studland up to Ballard down and along to Old Harry Rocks and back to Studland. It was a little gloomy and breezy but it was still a lovely walk on the top looking over Swanage and then back to Poole harbour.

Crossing Ballard Down I saw this black bird and passed it off as a Crow, then I took another look and saw how large it was much bigger than the Rooks and Crows at home. I wasn’t sure what it was but managed to get a picture to identify at home. I looked it up and thought it could be a Raven and it was confirmed later on Facebook on the Dorset Wildlife Photography page https://www.facebook.com/groups/DorsetWildlifePhotography/. This is a first for me!

Then on to Old Harry Rocks, the views wern’t too good today I could just see the cliffs of the Isle of White in the distance.

As we were looking at Old Harry a Kestrel came into view and it started to hover right in front of us, we spent some time enjoying the spectacle, at times he was below us keeping steady in the breeze. It was really beautiful. Unfortunately I only had my 24-105mm lens but I couldn’t resist taking a few of images. I was pleased I managed to capture him hovering above the sea.
