Towards the end of June I had an overnight stay at the small Caravan Club CL at Stourhead. There was only myself and another caravan parked up. It was very busy at Stourhead but once it was evening most people had gone home and there were just a few people having a walk.

There is plenty of life on and around the lake. I noticed this bird on the lily pad with flies it’s mouth. I’m still not sure what it is I thought it was possibly a Blackcap but it seemed too big.

The Coots were much in evidence there were families and also birds on eggs.

There were plenty of other birds with young, the hybrid duck a pair of Swans with a Cygnet and many more.

In the morning I was up at around 4.30am to get down the the lake before dawn to take some landscape pictures. I walked around Stourhead house and formal gardens before going down to the lake. I heard some noise under some bushes I peeped in and spotted a young Badger rummaging around. Then farther down the path more noise and two foxes crossed the path in front of me twice, both of these encounters was a real thrill.

Down on the lake I spotted a Great Crested Grebe pair with youngsters in the morning sun. I spent sometime watching them before they moved off down the lake.

I really enjoyed the morning by th lake I didn’t see anyone else until I was on my way back to the camper van at 7am, somewhere I will visit again overnight, perhaps in the autumn.
