We hadn’t visited Arne for a while so with the promise of a nice day we decided to take a trip to see what was about. As always we had no expectations it’s always a lovely walk over the heath and along Shipstal overlooking Poole Harbour. There were certainly plenty of small birds around and of course Grey Squirrels dashing about collecting food in the fallen leaves.
Most people ignore the Sika deer but how ever many times we see them we always enjoy watching and taking photos of them. The young Stag was in the woodland by Shipstal ponds, he was as interested in us as we were of him. There were also a couple of hinds in a group, although wary of us they stayed long enough for us to get a few photos.
We had noticed the Stags on the marsh from the top of Shipstal and when we got to the hide we could watch them at a distance, there were a number of them and suddenly they decided to move off of the marsh and back into the woods towards the ponds, so we made our way back along the track and met them when they were crossing over the path and we could view them closely.
One of the highlights for me was seeing Spoonbills take off from the mud bank way out in Poole harbour where there are usually a large number and they headed straight for us. I didn’t have time to think and just snapped with my camera and managed to capture one as it flew over.
A few pictures of some of the other wildlife we saw below.
