We had some more heavy rain… nothing changes in this winter into spring, and I decided I couldn’t face the mud on the paths around home so for Tilly’s morning walk we went down to Bere Marsh and along the North Dorset Trailway towards Hammoon. Even the trailway was wet with puddles and the drainage ditches were full to overflowing. The Mallard Ducks were enjoying them though.
The season is slipping into spring despite the weather. There are so many Little Egrets along the Stour as you walk along the Trailway and they are probably joining the Herons in the local Heronry, there is plenty of action there at the moment.
As I was nearly to the Hammoon road I spotted a male Yellowhammer on the top of the hedge and he was soon joined by a female, they didn’t stay around too long just giving me enough time to take a snap! They really brightened up my day.
There is always plenty to see now with all the birds pairing up. The Blackbirds and Robins are already feeding young around home as are others I’m sure. I also caught a glimpse of the Barn Owl, I do hope there are young this year.
